Because of this, he was cursed to die in the embrace of one of his wives. Kunti tells Pandu of her blessing, and she calls on gods to give her sons, Yudhishthira, Bhima, and Arjuna. She then summons a god for Madri, and Madri gives birth to twins. Pandu helped raise the 5 sons, but eventually grew tired and embraced Madri, which resulted in his death as well as Mardi's death. Kunti took their 5 sons to live in the forest out of sadness connected to the city.

When word of Kunti's first pregnancy reached the kingdom, Pandu's brother and his wife became nervous for who would next have claim over the throne. His wife became pregnant, at it was a very difficult one. The lump that came out was divided into 100 pieces which were then emerged in oil. These became known as the Kauruva sons. The sons that emerged were had some kind of demonic quality, especially the eldest, Duryodhana.

Kunti came back to the kingdom with her sons, known as the Pandavas. Duryodhana became very jealous of the Pandavas who became loved by everyone, including all of their grandfather, Bhishma. Duryodhana discovered that he was no longer the strongest son, which fueled his anger more and more. Shakuni became Duryodhana's mentor and fueled his anger more, informing Duryodhana that the Pandava's would steal his throne if D didn't kill them first.

Bhima discovered an underwater palace, and discovered that he was related to the ruled of the kingdom, Vasuki. Vasuki gave Bhima a magic drink that gave him enormous strength. Bhima left the underwater kingdom with the knowledge and awareness of the oncoming danger.

Bhishma realized quickly that the growing young men needed a teacher to instruct them on war and fighting. A brahmin, Drona, came to the young men and demonstrated his knowledge and strength to the boys. They took him to to Bhishma, who allowed Drona to be the boys' teacher for the Pandavas. Drona taught the Pandavas, and they each fell into their own talents.

While the Pandavas are in the forest, they discover a very proficient archer, Ekalavya. Arjuna discovers that the archer had learned his skill from DRONA. Even through Drona had actually turned away Ekalavya at his request to be a student of Drona, Ekalavya had found a way to observe and learn anyways.
